How the United Nations Resembles The Onion

From the New York Times:

Next Monday, the United Nations will implement Resolution 65/309, adopted unanimously by the General Assembly in July 2011, placing “happiness” on the global agenda.

The good news is this makes it seem as if the UN has a sense of humor; kind of a reverse parody of The Hunger Games.

The bad news is isn’t a joke and it comes from a notoriously self-referential and self-serious organization. The punch line:

Resolution 65/309 empowers the Kingdom of Bhutan to convene a high-level meeting on happiness as part of next week’s 66th session of the U.N. General Assembly in New York.

The Honorable Rufus T. Firefly, leader of Freedonia, was sadly unavailable to host the gig.

About Professor Mockumental

I enjoy almost all forms of parody, buffoonery, and general high-jinks. Satire has shown itself to be an essential societal need; I therefore humbly offer my services in such a manner. I enjoy mocking the usual suspects at the New York Times (Charles Blows, Moron Dowd, and the earth is flat guy) and Washington Post (Dana Milkbag, E.D. Dijon, and David Ignoramus). There are many others as well, but sadly, there are always too many targets and too little time.
