Andre Agassi and Barack Obama

Tennis great Andre Agassi didn’t do himself any favors when he was suckered into doing his “Image is everything” ad for Canon in 1990. In his biography, Agassi came to realize that in doing the ad, he’d been had. The image we saw wasn’t him and even if it was, while an image might count for something—like endorsements—it doesn’t win any tennis matches.

Similarly, President Obama earned a lifelong endorsement from the traditional media starting on the day he rolled onto the national stage, despite, like Agassi at that point in his career, not having a winning championship record. In fact, even before that time, almost all the President’s substantive personal records were magically sealed, and today, Dear Reader has acquired a losing Presidential record, not that the media thinks such things are important enough to mention.

Like the Canon copywriters, too many American voters appear to be deceived into saying and perhaps believing that image is everything. At the top of our national leadership pyramid-scheme, with the President and his team, it’s difficult to know if they actually believe the deceit they’re peddling or whether they just want to continue to provide bread and circuses until America collapses on itself and can be then reformed into a true union/government worker’s paradise.

Of course image is not everything and at the end of the day, winning is what really counts. This is true on the tennis court and whether it regards GDP, unemployment, the debt, the deficit, food stamps, the Arab Spring, North Korea’s nuclear weapons, Americans who have given up looking for work, etc.

We have a President and a Party who want to control more and more of your life (unless you’re a homosexual or want an abortion) because you’re far too stupid to make your own decisions (unless you want to be a homosexual or to have an abortion). His method is by spending your money and that of your children and grandchildren (unless you’re a homosexual or have abortions in which case, it’ll be other people’s children and grandchildren). We have a debt that can’t be repaid, massive cross-society promises that can’t be kept, and an Administration that is either willfully misleading or is dangerously ignorant.

We are well into the process of reaping the Obama-nation (and the abomination) we’ve elected. May God have mercy on us.

Image doesn’t win matches.

About Professor Mockumental

I enjoy almost all forms of parody, buffoonery, and general high-jinks. Satire has shown itself to be an essential societal need; I therefore humbly offer my services in such a manner. I enjoy mocking the usual suspects at the New York Times (Charles Blows, Moron Dowd, and the earth is flat guy) and Washington Post (Dana Milkbag, E.D. Dijon, and David Ignoramus). There are many others as well, but sadly, there are always too many targets and too little time.
